Trying to enable the soft padding feature is a pain in the ass.

The softpad branch should be folded into the trunk. Without it, MythTV fails to catch every two-part season finale or season opener unless you check for conflicts with regularity. This happened to me tonight on the CW. In fact, the lack of soft padding is the primary reason I am dumping my TiVo? in favor of MythTV. I heard so much about this feature that I assumed that... I don't know... it actually WORKED in recent releases without having to install some custom branch that doesn't appear to even be kept up-to-date....
That said, the only thing that sucks more than missing a show because of a boneheaded scheduler is finding out that the fix has been sitting there on a branch for a year and still hasn't gotten folded into the trunk. It's time to fold it in. If you think it will screw things up for people, make it an optional checkbox, but fold it into the trunk so that it's not such a pain in the ass to enable the feature.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE fold softpad into the trunk.
