DVB Only? Live TV: Sparkles in video SVN 8590

Reported by: homer_simpson_loves_u@… Owned by: danielk
Priority: minor Milestone: unknown
Component: mythtv Version: head
Severity: medium Keywords: sparkles in live tv video in DVB
Cc: Ticket locked: no

Description

It looks like I'm getting snow from a noisy antenae, except I'm all digital in DVB. The sparkles appear to be random although they have a 3 to 5 pixel horizontal line of White / Black / White pattern when they do appear. Different channels have different numbers of sparkles but the pattern is always the same.

Could it be an XV problem?

Homer

PS Tuning seems to be much better now.

Are these in the first 30 lines at the top of the image?

I've noticed some broadcasters are capturing the VBI portion in their NTSC frames when they transcode them for ATSC broadcast. If this is the case, a few complaints to the broadcaster's technical department should make them disappear...

Thanks Daniel.

No, the sparkles are randomly apearing all over the image. I have seen VBI information on certain channels, but that's because I can't get my ATI card to overscan vertically. This is not related to that.

This problem does not exist in SVN 8560 or any previous version. I've never seen it before. And the sparkles have a pattern, Sometimes they are three pixels wide (one pixel high): white black white, sometimes five pixels high: black white black white black.

Tonight I will confirm the problem doesn't exist in 8560. Hopefully someone else can confirm the bug as well.

Thanks very much for your help,

Homer

I have to appologize. Apparently my 1.5 week old video card has died. X crashed on me while I was trying to test the older version of myth and when I finally got it running, it too had sparkles.

I'll have to take it back and get another one. Hopefully one that won't die in a few weeks.
