#12078 closed Bug Report - General (Fixed)

recording doesn't show in media library

Reported by: pegrego@… Owned by:
Priority: minor Milestone: 0.27.1
Component: MythTV - General Version: 0.27-fixes
Severity: medium Keywords: recording
Cc: Ticket locked: no

Description

Some recordings are not listed in Media Library/Watch? Recordings. However, the .mpg file exists in /var/lib/mythtv/recordings. It is possible to watch the recording by exiting to the back end, and using the VLC player.

The recoding is listed in Manage Recording/Previously? Recorded. The affected program is in red type, and "A" follows the listing.

This happens frequently, perhaps once a week, usually with specific programs, e.g. "Person of Interest". However most recordings are listed correctly in Media Library.

The program source is over the air (antenna) USA ATSC. I'm using Mythbuntu 0.27. I had the same issue with version 0.26.

Are these shows for which you've started playback before the recording completed?

Raymond, I just noticed a similar situation with my production backend where the files were still present on the filesystem, but didn't show up in Watch Recordings. It turns out they all had deletepending set and had been deleted by me en mass shortly before restarting the backend. I believe the frontend sets deletepending (or perhaps the bakend does it before queuing them for deletion) so it won't show them any more and the backend was probably restarted before the delete queue got around to handling them. I'm thinking the backend should automatically restart the deletion of anything with deletepending set whenever it is restarted, and perhaps even periodically to catch the case where the frontend crashes between setting deletepending and issuing the delete command to the backend.

Please verify it's not a filter or a view setting preventing the episodes from appearing:

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Frequently_Asked_Questions#Why_aren.27t_my_new_recordings_showing_up_in_Watch_Recordings.3F

Please also check whether the recording is in the Deleted recording group (in Watch Recordings, MENU|Change Group Filter, Deleted).

Also, let us know whether you or anyone else deleted the recording or if it "just disappears."

Replying to wagnerrp:

No. The recording is for a show that is broadcast too late to watch live. Usually the TV set itself is off during recording. The next day we find whether the show is listed.

1) The Group is "All Programs" and the filter is default 2) I don't see a Deleted option in Change Group Filter 3) No one deleted the recording.

Additional information: If I use MythWeb to check Recorded Programs while a recording is in progress it normally lists the program being recorded, and periodically updated the file size. However, in cases where the entry for a finished recording is missing, it does not show in Recorded Programs while the recording is in progress. Thus the problem must occur right at the start of the recording, not afterwards. In the cases where the program records but doesn't show in the listing, I can find the file over the network and watch the file size increase as the recording progresses.

The programs that don't show in Recorded Programs do show in Previously Recorded, but in red, with "A" at the end of the listing. Recording Details for one of these entries shows all the program details, but Myth Status at the end shows "Aborted". But sometimes the program did record, and the mpg file is on the hard drive.

I think I've found out what is happening, at least in many cases. The problem arises when a program is watched live just before the program that is to be recorded, and is on the same channel. For example, my wife watched "Hawaii 5-0" live and had "Blue Bloods" set up to record. "Hawaii 5-0" is on just before "Blue Bloods", and is on the same channel. "Blue Bloods" did not show in the Recorded Programs list. However, I did find it on MythWeb under Recorded Programs in the Live TV group. The file for the program was in the Media Library the day after the program was on the air, but a few days later it is gone - Myth apparently deleted it as an old Live TV file.

There is some overlap between the live showing and the scheduled recording that follows, since I have Myth set to start recording 2 minutes before the start of the program. It appears that in this case Myth mistakenly tags the recording as Live TV, even though it was set up to record. Is there a setting to force a recording even if there is an overlap with a live TV on the same channel?
