DVB-T T2 HD support

Reported by: bjoernv@… Owned by:

Component: MythTV - General Version: Unspecified
Severity: medium Keywords:
Cc: Ticket locked: no

Description

MythTV 0.28 will support H.265 support in general. See #12393.

MythTV should also support the new DVB-T2 HD standard in Germany. DVB-T2 is not the same like DVB-T2 HD. DVB-T2 uses H.264 and is already used in some countries like UK, Northern Ireland, Italy, Finland, Sweden etc. DVB-T2 HD uses H.265 and will start 2016 in Germany.

Currently there is not much technical information available for DVB-T2 HD:

Information about DVB-T2 HD testing projects in Berlin, Cologne-Bonn and Munich is available on the DVB-T2HD portal.

As the trac "TicketHowTo" points out (I presume you did not read that) trak is not for feature requests, and users are not supposed set priorities, either.

The german brand "DVB-T2 HD" contains mandatory DRM support, so we can not really support it. A common subset HEVC/H.265 over DVB-T2 can be supported in the future. But not tonight (planned feature freeze date or 0.28)

The German "DVB-T2 HD" does not contain mandatory DRM support. DRM support is only needed for commercial channels. Public TV will be unencrypted.

No - it does contain mandatory DRM support, see below.

Yes - it does not enforce every channel to make use of that support. That is why I said there is a subset that we can support.

Quoting from the "minimum requirements" http://www.tv-plattform.de/images/stories/pdf/2015_%20minimum%20requirementst2-germany-v1.pdf

Chapter 1.6 - Definitions - explains that "shall" means a "requirement" with "implementation mandatory"

Chapter 2.1.2. - HDMI - contains

STBs shall have a minimum of one HDMI output and shall support HDCP.

Chapter 7 - Common Interface Plus - contains

The device shall include at least one common interface slot

Chapter 8.3 - DRM Support - contains

Devices should support at least one DRM when the A/V content is delivered by using MPEG DASH. Microsoft PlayReady? should be supported at least.

So there is no surprise in there, but I'd call that mandatory implementation of DRM.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
