Description
U.S. digital TV stations choose between two formats for their HD broadcasts, 1080i or 720p. So, in normal viewing, users frequently switch from progressive to interlaced content.
Currently, the Deinterlacing setting is global, effecting all channels and files.
Can the interlacing setting be turned on and off dynamically, to adapt to the type of video being displayed?
Or, the interlacing flag and mode could be a per-channel setting.

There should be a per format setting, not a per channel setting.
And as Doug noted, content marked as progressive will already not be deinterlaced.

Besides, deinterlacing is only appropriate when displaying interlaced content on a progressive display. As it isn't deinterlacing progressive content (which it isn't), then the deinterlacing setting shouldn't change unless the monitor type changes. In general, the display should either be always interlaced or always progressive, unless you're changing displays on a per-program basis. There may be some displays which might be able to switch between modes depending on content, but in that case, you would not need to ever deinterlace content since the monitor would switch appropriately on its own, so the deinterlace setting would always stay off.

Sorry, I guess this is already resolved. I had seen combing effects on progressive content in he past.
Suggest you look at the code. Deinterlacing is already disabled for content that's marked progressive.
