Switching VT terminals while in LiveTV or video playback does not restore screen

Description
If mythfrontend is at a menu, I can switch the VT to another X or text VT and back again with no issues in screen restoration. If I am watching LiveTV or watching video playback, and I switch to another VT and then back again, the screen stays black and no video is displayed.
I can then kill the mythfrontend process (from a text VT) and the desktop is restored on the X VT. Several error messages about buffering the video appear in the shell where I started mythfrontend.
Suggested behavour:
Upon a VT switch away while any video is playing, pause the video playback. Upon a VT switch back to the mythfrontend, the video will be paused and the current frame can be repainted/refreshed based in the VT switch (VT event ?).
If this is too difficult, just have the frontend exit to the main menu.
Driver bug, not myth.
