Mythfrontend ignores all inputs from remote or keyboard

Reported by: bovaboy@… Owned by: Isaac Richards
Priority: minor Milestone: unknown
Component: MythTV - General Version: unknown

Description

Randomly mythfrontend ignores all inputs from either the remote or the keyboard, and the only way I can get it to work is to reboot or kill mythfrontend and re-load. This only appears to happen while watching live tv, and when it does occur the tv still plays normally on the screen. My remote causes the the video to pause whenever I push a button normally (which I'm not fussed about) and this still occurs when the above fault happens, just myth ignores it. I'm running Mythbuntu 8.10 on a P4 with an nvidia graphics card. Nothing seems to be wrong when I look at processor usage, xorg seems to be running normally and there's nothing out of the ordinary in the frontend log.

dup of #5660?

The symptoms are similar but the commands are never executed regardless of how long I wait. The ticket #5660 doesn't mention keyboard inputs? This fault occurs pretty much every day now which makes myth almost unuseable, I change something every time it happens but I've not found anything that has made it any better.

Trac is not a support forum. If you are having issues with the SVN version of Myth, please try using the stable 0.21-fixes version.

I get this randomly too.

Keyboard input works fine for the menus but while watching a movie (using the internal player) it ignores key input at random.

It seems to go for extended periods of time either processing or ignoring it.

Note that the X server is still processing key input as ctrl-alt-f1 still works.

Myth is still processing mouse events as the wheel skips back and forth.

Hmm actually this should probably be a new ticket since the remote works for me even when the keyboard does not.

Almost certainly a focus issue. Internally remote presses are turned into key presses as soon as they arrive, so if the remote works then there is nothing wrong with keyboard input either. The only explanation (apart from hardware) is that mythfrontend is losing focus to another app and the key presses are going there instead.

I had considered that but clicking on the display window does not rectify the issue.

Also there isn't anything else running except twm as I wrote a custom .desktop file to run a minimal .xsession file.
