Problem with the audio buffer prevents use.

Description

My capture card itself seems to work well. Xawtv and tvtime both have sound/video and the tuner seems to work well. /dev/dsp outputs the audio as it should. I've tried all the different inputs (coax, svideo, composite), changed the audio buffer options, and even if I set the capture card's audio device to none, this problem still pops up. Specifically, mythfrontend loops with this output until I kill it when I try to watch something and both the frontend and backend freeze.

2009-09-13 00:31:38.624 NVP: Prebuffer wait timed out 10 times. 2009-09-13 00:31:38.707 NVP::AddAudioData?():p1: Audio buffer overflow, audio data lost! 2009-09-13 00:31:38.707 NVP::AddAudioData?():p1: Audio buffer overflow, audio data lost! 2009-09-13 00:31:38.707 NVP::AddAudioData?():p1: Audio buffer overflow, audio data lost! etc...

I can record the input, but it appears that something (maybe even not mythtv, although I'm not sure what it would be since the output of /dev/dsp is fine) is doing is screwing with the sound. For instance if I try to play one of the recorded files, mplayer complains about the audio.

Starting playback...

Too many audio packets in the buffer: (4096 in 16777216 bytes).

Please provide a mythbackend -v record, channel log for a short (5 minute) recording.

Also, what capture card and drivers are you using?

The card should be a Sabrent SBT-TVFM, since it only works with saa7134 card=42 tuner=17 AFAIK, but there's no eeprom to verify that. My problem appears to be similar to the one described in this link since mythbackend becomes defunct after recording and on shutdown still appears to be writing to the disk (won't unmount on halt). http://www.mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-users/2008-March/216979.html

SampleRate?: Attempted to add a rate 32000 Hz, which is not in the list of allowed rates.

In your recording profile, can you try setting a valid samplerate for the card you are using?

No response, approach suggested in the infoneeded message is the apparent correct answer.
