MythWeb's unnecessary use of AJAX makes the experience so bad

Reported by: vandyjay Owned by: Rob Smith
Priority: major Milestone: unknown
Component: Plugin - MythWeb Version: 0.21
Severity: high Keywords: mythweb, AJAX, javascript
Cc: Ticket locked: no

Description

MythWeb's unnecessary and inappropriate use of AJAX greatly increased the time required for each page load. Even for getting information for a particular show on the grid, it does a AJAX call. Absolutely not necessary. I much prefer to read information about a show as soon as I hover and the information is pre-cached during the page load.

Another problem is that mouseover event is triggered whenever the user move across the screen and caused many calls to server. This should not happen.

FWIW, in [17029] (18 months ago), trunk was changed to delay displaying of the detail popups (and, therefore, the AJAX calls) until the user had hovered over a link for 1/4 second. In [20241] (6 months ago), the change was backported to 0.21-fixes. Therefore, the 2nd issue you mentioned will be fixed if you update to anything even close to current, and doing so may relieve your concerns over the first issue.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
