Description

There is a hardware independent video playback acceleration project on ​http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/vaapi. Although it is possible to use external vaapi-enabled mplayer for video playback, it may be nice to have a vaapi playback interface integrated in a future mythtv release.

Especially nettops (as mythtv home cinema boxes) would benefit from (hardware independent) video acceleration.
