I was wondering if you contacted the Brazilian Portuguese translators listed on http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Translation to coordinate efforts on this translation.

(Both for consistency in the translation and to avoid duplicating efforts...)

No, I haven't contacted him. Since the last ticket with pt_br translation is more than 60 days old i just assumed he is no longer working on it.

Hi Daniel,

Many translators tend to work on translations when we are close to release (which is not the case currently) while others wait until their translation is more complete before submitting a patch. They also do it as time permits...

We also tend to encourage that work be done in teams (which appears to be the case for Brazilian Portuguese since there are two translators listed on the Translation wiki page). How the work (translation, review...) is split up between team members is up to them but this usually result a more consistent and accurate translation. Their address are provided on the translation page so that they can be contacted to either join their team or provide feeback on the translation.

Could you please contact them to inquire about the current status of the translation and hopefully team up with them?

I contacted Luzemário 3 days ago, still no reply.

Anyway, I can't wait for other translators. I installed MythTV on my parent's house a long time ago and after the last update (0.23->0.24) there was no translation at all (the pt/br split was probably a bad idea). The pt_PT translation looks like an automatic translation, so its not usable either.

I'm doing the translation for my parents, i need it finished ASAP. I'm sending it upstream if anybody else wants to use it and I don't care if it gets on the next MythTV release or not.

It would be good if you leave this ticket open in case you don't want to merge the patch, when Luzemário starts working on the translation again he can use my patch if he wants to.

Yes... it is my case too... :)

I am currently working on both pt_BR translation and making a channel changer for Marco Polo professional TV decoders. I have 200+ candidates to MythTV backends in my monitoring network. It appears to be a huge task, but can be a pleasure experience. I'm still excited!!!

Yes, you are very welcome to help. Maybe can we work together? If you want, send your strings to me, and I can apply it more often. Anyway, I cannot guarantee it will be released in time to official builds. I test several platforms, and may be some minor differences in update times of packages (I mean Windows builds) may exist.

Hi Daniel!

As you already know I got confirmation from Luzemário that merging your updates to the translation would be perfectly fine so I committed everything you submitted.

BTW, I noticed a few strings that you, Luzemário and the other Brazilian Portuguese translator might want to looks at for the next update:

"Play %n trailers(s)" was translated as "Tocar %n trailers(s)" and only for the singular form (same thing for "Result of this filter : %n video(s)" which was translated into "Resultados deste filtro: %n vídeo(s)" and possibly others). The usual way to translate these would have been to translate it into "Tocar %n trailer" for singular and "Tocar %n trailers" for plural.

(I am assuming here that the singular/plural forms of Portuguese are similar to the English/French? ones...)

Several technical words came from English language, so there is no direct translation for them.

We highly appreciate foreign languages... ;)
