Embedded text subtitles don't show in mkv files

Severity: medium Keywords:

Description

Lately (1-2 months lately, I can't be more specific due to lack of free time...) the embedded text subs for mkv files don't appear. Pressing T doesn't have any effect (i.e. it shows "subtitle Greek... Yes/no" but no sub appears). The problem affects only the embedded ones, either marked as "default" or as "forced" (I used mkvmerge-gui to change the setting). They appear correctly if I extract them to .srt files. Vobsub subtitles are not affected by this bug.

The playback osd menu can see the subs and offers to show them, but nothing comes on screen.

The problem affects all frontends.

This is working for me in Master, at least for English subtitles. Perhaps it's a problem selecting the right subtitle stream.

Can you provide a link to a short sample demonstrating the problem?

Thanks for your post, I will provide the sample tomorrow when I'm at home. If by "selecting the right subtitle stream" you mean the user, the files have only one subtitle, the Greek one.

Thanks for the sample. Both subtitle tracks display for me.

Check your configure script output - you need to have libass enabled to support this type of embedded text subtitles.

You are right. I installed libass-devel and everything is ok.

Sorry for the noise.

Yianni.
