#11488 closed Bug Report - General (Abandoned)

Sony BDP-S390 will not play Mythtv recordings via the Mythtv UPnP server

Reported by: bd4465@… Owned by: dblain
Priority: minor Milestone: unknown
Component: MythTV - UPnP Version: 0.26-fixes
Severity: low Keywords: BDP-S390

Description

My Sony BDP-S390 will not play Mythtv recordings via the Mythtv UPnP server. I have checked the logs and found nothing. There are no error messages on the Mythtv machine to report. I can tell you that Mythtv 0.24 does work but 0.25 and 0.26 do not work. When you navigate the directory tree of the Mythtv server using the BDP-S390 and go to recordings you will see that the files show up as AVI files. The files on the Mythtv server are MPG files. If I transfer the files to my D-Link or Netgear UPnP servers they show up correctly as MPEG files and play fine. I have tested a Sony BDP-S780 and that player does play the files but they are listed as AVI files and not MPEG files. I have also tested my Android phone with Bubble UPnP and that works fine. The files are displayed as MPEG. I found a closed ticket from 0.25 (11128) that did sort of address the issue but it said that the issue was fixed in 0.26 and I can tell you it is not. I would like to offer tcpdumps of the BDP-S390 playing a 10 second video from the D-Link DNS-323 and Netgear WNDR4500 UPnP servers that work correctly if it would help in resolving this issue.

#9424 "Support for Sony Blu-ray players" added a hack which makes mythtv report recordings as AVI for all Sony bluray players. The hack appear to be needed to get BDP-S?80 players to play back mpeg2-ts content, however newer players (BDP-S?90 or later) will play mpeg2-ts fine but will break because of the #9424 hack.

if you revert #9424 you should have your BDP-S390, but it will "break" support for your BDP-S780. (pick your poison)

Newer devices seam to have better UPnP/DLNA conformance, so hopefully UPnP/DLNA will be usable with all devices bought a few years from now =)
