#12096 closed Bug Report - General (fixed)
mythweb requires 'a2enmod cgi' on debian

Description
I'm using the Debian packages for 0.27. The site was immediately usable upon installing mythweb, but I was unable to access the asx stream and the video downloads - each would give me a 404.
I tracked this down to the fact that Debian seems to ship with the cgi module disabled by default. Things started working after a "sudo a2enmod cgi". Mind noting this in the INSTALL file?

I don't think anyone would argue that the debian packaging setup is ideal. However, if you leave out the mention of Debian specifically, wouldn't it be nice for the INSTALL file to note that the cgi module is needed? It is after all.

The INSTALL file I was reading is the same as in current mythweb git, and fails to mention the cgi mod. How is that a bug created by the deb-multimedia packages? It could be placed under the Ubuntu section if you prefer - Ubuntu also has the cgi mod disabled by default.
[Yes, I'm aware that they are not part of Debian, but they are the canonical packages *for* Debian that I've been using for ~8 years.]
If you still don't consider this a bug for some reason, please let me know and I'll see if Christian can carry a patch.

Sorry. You emphasized the 'Debian' packages and I stopped reading right there since the only 'Debian' packages I know of are the DMO ones and neither we nor Debian want anything to do with them. For future reference, even if the Ubuntu packages install on Debian, they are still Ubuntu packages and calling them such will help to lessen any confusion. Also, MythWeb is dying unless someone steps up to maintain it.

It's not hard to just add a comment to the INSTALL file. Taking this ticket....

Debian does not package MythTV. It is done by someone outside of Debian *for* Debian and his packages often have problems. All problems with those packages should be reported to the person who packages it, mot to MythTV and not to Debian.
