mythweb fatal error with brand new master backend on ubuntu mate 16.04

Description
Installed from packages "mythtv-backend-master", tweaked mysql to accept LAN connections by changing /etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/mysqld.cnf "bind address = 192.168.x.y" for the host's address, ran myth-setup. Selected EIT listings only, so programs table in db has no entries yet.
Default directory looked unfamiliar, it accepted "/home/mythtv/default" as a value, after creating that directory, and chmod 775, chown mythtv:mythtv.
Backend running. When 192.168.x.y/mythweb/tv/list is accessed in browser on frontend machine, or that address or localhost on backend machine, Fatal error pops up, after only the first channel listing is rendered.
As invited, I attach the backtrace below. Ubuntu version is 2:0.28.0+fixes.20160413.15cf421-0ubuntu2.16.04.1.

Dup of #12811 . Update to current 0.28-fixes or later to get a version that supports the version of MySQL/MariaDB you're using.
