Can't stop metadata lookup jobs

Description
I thought I had done everything necessary to disable metadata activity from my system, but I missed the default template. I fixed that when I found some jobs for new recording rules created after migrating from 0.23. I then went to look for a supported way to cancel/stop the jobs and found it (or so I thought) in Watch Recordings -> Menu -> Job Options -> Stop Metadata Lookup for the affected recordings. I chose that option for each recording that has a metadata job queued up. But they aren't going away and the option in the Job Options menu continues to read "Stop Metadata Lookup" for these recordings, while all other recordings have the Job Options menu item "Begin Metadata Lookup".
How many hoops must we jump through to eliminate metadata activity from our systems?
