Isn't this problem the same as ​https://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/12713 ? As described in ticket 12713 I added the following lines to the end of /etc/mysql/conf.d/mythtv.cnf and it solved the problem:

 max_connections=100
 sql_mode=NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION
