#13088 closed Bug Report - General (Invalid)
New interface for Channel Scanner in Version 29
Reported by: | Owned by: | Peter Bennett | |
---|---|---|---|
Priority: | minor | Milestone: | 29.1 |
Component: | MythTV - General | Version: | v29-fixes |
Severity: | medium | Keywords: | |
Cc: | Ticket locked: | no |
Description
Successfully install a DVB-S2 dual channel card using the new interface but had some difficulty.
Could not initiate a single frequency scan.
Could not edit a transport.
Could not add a new transport.
In Setup 6.Channel Editor
Edit Transports
Attempting to edit an existing transport produces a blank screen with the parameters shown in the title.
In channel scan - Scan of single existing transport how do you select the transport?
When attempting to 'Scan' using the bottom box in the list, this fails as the context must be set up in the Scan Type box these controls need to be nested or some indication that they are dependent given.
Adding a new transport also produced a blank screen.
Just realised that these issues may be theme related, I am using Steppes 29.0. Which theme should work?

I tried this in the Steppes theme and it all works as follows. If some part is not working please tell me which step is failing. Normally you should do the channel scan from Input connections before going into channel editor. I don't know if trying channel editor first causes a problem.
Channel Scan
After you have set up your capture card, video source and input connection.
mythtv-setup
- Input Connections
- Enter
- down arrow to DVB
- right arrow
- down arrow to "Scan for channels"
- enter
- Fill in any needed options
- down arrow to "Scan"
- enter
Edit transport
mythtv-setup
- Channel Editor
- In Video source, select your DVB source
- down arrow to a channel
- right arrow then down arrow to "edit transports"
- down arrow to selected line
- right arrow.
- make changes.
Add transport
mythtv-setup
In step 5 instead of selecting an existing transport, select "add a new transport"
I think the key here is, if you are scanning or editing transports in the channel editor, you first have to select the video source, and the video source you select must be associated with the DVB card.

I have a different workflow.
I only use input connections to associate the data source with the relevant card, nothing else.
All the scanning I do from the channel editor.
- Select dvb source
- Select "channel scan"
- Set parameters. I mostly use "scan existing transports"
- Then "scan"
It does look like what the original poster was asking about is there, you just have to go to the right on the scan single transport.
Anyway, i'll leave the original poster to comment on your method above.

Oh it works, just trying to decide whether I was being dumb or the interface is too obscure.
The workflow from stuarta works fine. You can scan existing transports. This works because that scan type does not need a context.
For a Full Scan (Tuned) a start frequency is needed. For a Scan of a Single Transport that Transport needs to be identified. The user has to realise that the right arrow on the Scan Type: means required input.
Edit Transports Just does not work in Steppes. Editing any transport produces a blank screen showing the params in the title but no dialogue boxes, Entering (New Transport) creates a new entry ok but because this is a long list it is inevitably created off screen so unless you know to scroll the screen backwards the user is mistified. Inserted first into the list would be helpful. Selecting the new entry produces a screen with title New Transport and no dialogues,

Updated to Steppes 29.1 - note new appearance for arrows like New Transport.
As described previously I get the screen shown in your image but it only contains the title bar and date. It is different to yours due to it being a DVB-S Transport so in my case the title bar contains
QPSK 11739000 Hz rate 29500000 netid 2 tid 2002 Fri Aug 4 2017 10:25 A.M.
The boxes in your image containing Digital TV Standard, Frequency & Modulation are not present.
Note that you can edit a transport from the 'Channel Scan' by selecting 'Scan of single existing transport' but it does not work via 'Edit Transports' which provides the only method to add a new one. I am guessing that the problem lies with the ,Digital TV Standard, being different?

Just re-tested in Mythcenter-wide the behaviour is identical so not a theme issue, will try and load a system with 0.28 and check if its an old problem. Just to re-iterate the transport editor under the Channel Scan works its only the one under Edit Transports and the problem seems to effect only DVB or perhaps only DVB-S. Anyway seems only a minor issue - many thanks for the great work.

Further info - DVB-T works so the fault is unique to DVB-S. Suggest renaming this report to 'Transport Editor does not work with DVB-S transponders'. Otherwise please close as user error and I will raise a new specific one.

I think it best to open a new specific ticket for that, without all the clutter in this ticket. I do not have access to DVB-S so somebody else will have to look into that.

It works for me with DVB-T in Mythcenter-wide. Right and left buttons are active/required.
