Description
I had been noticing some annoying "tearing" of video playback at 720p. I was told that using the latest nVidia binary driver and a couple of tweaks to xorg.conf markedly improve this.
I had been running the 8774 driver. When I installed the latest 9xxx driver, the tearing in the upper area of the screen went away - just as was mentioned...I was happy. However, MythWeb began to crash the system when I clicked on "Backend Status" (it locked up X; I could ssh in but couldn't kill the process, or even reboot cleanly - had to resort to the reset button). The rest of MythWeb worked OK. This went away when I downgraded back to the 8774 driver. I have tried this with 9746 and 9631 - no difference.
System: Athlon 64, pcHDTV 5500 capture card, nVidia 6200 series OEM video card, Mandriva 2006 x86_64 with Linus's 2.6.18-rc5 kernel with pcHDTV's patches for 2.6.17-series kernels (fixed the "signal-strength" bug).
A PHP program cannot kill X by you looking at its output in a web browser. Look to the browser itself, or some other config on your system.
fyi, I'm running 9742 with no issues.
